Sophie Taylor

CO-MENTORED WITH BOEYNAEMS LAB
GRADUATE STUDENT

Sovanny or โ€œSophieโ€ received her B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Medical Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May of 2022. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in the lab of Dr. Jeremy Purvis, where she utilized 4i (iterative, indirect, immunofluorescent imaging) to characterize different states of cellular senescence and quiescence.

Sophie started her PhD in the Cancer and Cell Biology program at BCM in August of 2022 and joined the lab of Dr. Steven Boeynaems to study biomolecular condensates and the toxicity of cationic peptides in venoms and neurodegenerative diseases.  She utilizes APEX-seq, co-mentored by Dr. Furqan Fazal, to understand how cationic peptides perturb RNA metabolism within biomolecular condensates.

In her free time, she enjoys playing with her cat, attending music events, and watching movies/series.
